Welcome to ISSC 2012

On behalf of the Organising Committee, I would like to welcome all the participants to NUI Maynooth and the 23rd IET Irish Signals and Systems Conference (ISSC) 2010. This year's conference is organised by the Callan Institute of Applied ICT and the Department of Electronic Engineering.

The main purpose of the conference is to bring together researchers in the electronic engineering and computer science communities for the exchange of ideas in a friendly and enjoyable atmosphere. Over the years, the changing nature of the conference content has reflected the changing interests of our community. This year we have an interesting combination of the fundamental and the applied - with specific sessions on communications, biomedical applications, and theory and applications in data analysis and image processing. We are particularly happy with the richness of the papers in the area of analog and digital microelectronics. This area represesnts the convergence of the applied and the fundamental, industry and academia, and it very welcome to see the strength of publications and activity in this area.

I would like to take this opportunity to thank our sponsors - Analog Devices, Rohde & Schwarz and the Microelectronics Competence Centre of Ireland. We also welcome the support of the IET, CTVR and IEEE Computational intelligence Society (UKRI Chapter). Without their support, and the support of the organising committee, this conference could not have happened.

Conferences are an opportunity to create and renew professional and personal relationships with other researchers and I hope you take this opportunity to both enjoy the presentations and liaise with your colleagues. On that note I wish you a successful and enjoyable conference.

Ronan Farrell
